Another year, another Crunchyroll awards show that only the influencers and most terminally online folks actually care about. We're not some of those people, but we talked about it anyway because it's just our routine to talk and kvetch about it. But there are other things worth talking about, like some industry financials heading down a bit, GKIDS nabbing The Adolescence of Utena for theaters next month, Macross DYRL getting its first stateside screening at Anime Expo, Katsuhiro Otomo launching a new animation studio, and other things both good and bad. Apologies, once again, for the delay in this show going up due to a combination of scheduling issues and some illnesses roaming around. But we're back to catch up on the big things in the industry, from a big slate of One Piece coming out for Netflix to said industry's supposed next big thing in Kagurabachi coming next year, along with a plethora of fun things like a sports manga with real MLB players, laughing and yelling at Wit for using AI slop, pining over The Ribbon Hero and lamenting over whatever Crunchyroll has planned for their newly announced "industry summit" before NYCC. AnimeJapan has come and gone, and with it came the expected deluge of too much stuff to go over, but we did and we made sure to not leave out any important things for this year's rundown of the convention. Hopefully. It's been a bit hectic lately, things may slip from time to time. But along with that, we've FINALLY got some clarification for this whole Steel Ball Run rollout mess, even more new seasons announced after AnimeJapan like Frieren and Ranma 1/2, another case of studio consolidation with Lay-Duce's new owners, a quick look at the Anime Trending awards before doing another expected gawk-and-gander at Crunchyroll's schmooze-fest of an "awards" show - we know, we know, but it's just so easy for content. We're as guilty as all the rest.

Episode 201 – Never Entertain the Taste of Scarlet

This is a weirder show than most, on account of the vast mood shifts with all of the topic at hand here. There's a not-so-good amount of bad news to dive into, be it from the unfortunate winner of the WBD bidding war and... ALL of the horribleness from Shogakukan's editorial department that will definitely be upsetting to a lot of people for a lot of reasons. But we've got some good movies in the HYPNOSISMIC interactive concert event, the Umamusume sequel movie, and Cosmic Princess Kaguya on Netflix... and then there's Scarlet. Poor, poor Scarlet. It never stood a chance. And then there's more Evangelion on the horizon because of course there is, some plans for a Samurai Champloo live action project, Netflix doing not-terrible things for ONCE, and some future plans from Discotek and AnimEigo... for better AND for worse.

Episode 200 – Here There Be Ghosts AND Dragons

200 episodes ago, a group of guys got together to talk about anime every couple of weeks, record those discussions, and upload them to a small corner of the internet that seems to care what a group of would-be's think about all things anime. And 200 episodes later, we're still doing that, just with more refined takes and more realized viewpoints about the whole world at large. It's been quite a journey, and it's a journey we're still traversing through, for better or for worse, and we're glad that you're all here to share this journey with us. So, for the 200th installment, we've got plenty of Dragon Ball related things to talk about, from character popularity rankings and new project announcements, along with a new home for *THE* Ghost in the Shell coming later in the year, and plenty of kvetching about how much Crunchyroll continues to suck.

It's funny to see that we've chronicled Crunchyroll's progress of enshittification all throughout this show's life. Here's hoping that in the future things start to turn for the better, for once. And here's to (maybe) 200 more shows to come.

There's no point in sugarcoating it, it's been a rotten cold weekend already, either due to the widespread ice storm or the more vicious "ICE" storm happening. Things are still tough and rough, all we can really do is watch over ourselves and our family and friends and neighbors so that we are all kept safe and warm from the tyranny of this brutal winter, in both senses of the word. And if this dumb show about anime and manga can make things a bit easier for you out there, then we'll call that a job well done. For said dumb show, we've got plenty to talk about from the industry over the past few weeks, from the crossover appeal of Uma Musume and American football taking shape to a pair of 80s mecha legacy titles gearing up for their new entries, as well as plenty of "fun with manga/LN synopses" runthroughs and a notable update for many Discotek Media titles thanks to... a CERTAIN retailer not playing ball anymore, it seems.

Episode 198 – New Year’s Jump Dragon

2026 is here, and so far... not a great start to the year, for various reasons. Nevertheless, this show continues on to be an escape from those perils and horror and will continue to delivers the goods and the shenanigans that the anime industry as a whole delivers to all of us. And for the first show of the new year, we have a brief look back (no pun intended) on the top shows of last year before looking ahead at the upcoming series reveals and teases that Jump Festa delivered - as per usual, there was a lot on display, plus one notable series that got announced the week after Jump Festa. You already know the one.

Episode 197 – Artificial Translation

It shouldn't need to be said, but it'll be said anyway - we're not fans of AI slop as a means to replace people and actual art, and that stance isn't going to change any time soon. Nor are we fans of prolonged enshittification resulting in a select few people getting wealthier while everyone else suffers for their greed. It's not the most festive mood, but it's a mood that's going to keep remaining true as we head into 2026 - after yelling about Crunchyroll and Amazon and the Warner Bros. sale mess along with plenty of other things worth yelling about. But at least there are some cool things to be found, like some... *interesting(?)* Gundam projects, some cool Golden Globes nominations, excellent films worth watching on some platforms, and burying the last pound of dirt onto the casket of Gainax once and for all. Happy Honda Days, Merry Chrysler, and a joyous Toyotathon to all.

Episode 191 – Fire Drill (Anime Expo 2025)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip - that started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship. Xander was a mighty sailin' man, and Andrew brave and sure. Jet and Joe set sail that day for a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

Anime Expo happened and that means our adventure to all that happened in Los Angeles that weekend, of which there was plenty of good and even a bit of smoke going off early - don't worry, everyone's fine, it's just one of those mechanical issues that tend to come up. And from this year's AX, we'll be talking about plenty of interesting manga license pickups, some cool new show announcements aside from the BIG news of Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 which... WILD, and Gigguk is doing a thing too. Cool. But there was other cool things that happened before and after AX that deserve to be talked about, like the new dub initiative for Detective Conan, a really fun world record tying into one character's speech going LUDICROUS SPEED, the return of Rie Matsumoto in the director's chair, a surprise theatrical run for... Tokyo Ghoul... okay... and one more trip to France with a few cool things happening at Japan Expo - and yes, this show IS a three hour tour, once again. Enjoy the fun shenanigans all around.

PRODUCER'S NOTE: This show was a PAIN to put together, from sync issues to trying to cut out a lot of background noise to trying to make this show not be longer than 3 hours, but the biggest issue happened late in the show where Jet's microphone got disconnected while we were talking about the new Fist of the North Star series being announced. The entire segment had to be cut, we'll make up for it next time.

No, this is not an April Fools Day joke. Things have been pretty slow and rough for a lot of outside reasons and circumstances that have prevented our next episode from being up in a timely manner. Burnout and exhaustion sucks.

The next episode - AnimeJapan 2025 - will be up later in the week.
